At a glance
A digital detox is a way of changing access to devices and work, not a medical detoxification process. The most useful arrangements are those you can agree to and sustain.
Understand the rules
Some programmes collect phones; others limit use in shared spaces or leave boundaries entirely to guests. Ask how family can reach you, how travel documents are managed and whether essential work calls are possible.
Replace rather than only remove
Think about what will occupy the space: reading, rest, walking, conversation or a creative practice. A full schedule is not essential, but uncertainty about how to spend time may make disconnection harder.
Choose one change to keep
Before returning, decide on a realistic boundary such as a protected evening or fewer notifications. A retreat can provide a rehearsal; it cannot redesign your work environment without subsequent action.
